Report of meeting held on Monday 5 July 2010

Airport traffic

The council is very concerned about increasingly strict waiting restrictions around Bristol Airport that are having a serious knock-on effect on nearby roads.  There are difficulties with vehicles waiting to access the airport creating dangerous obstructions and the police had made various suggestions that will be passed on to the highway authority.

Vee Lane Play Area

A meeting with North Somerset Council to discuss new play equipment had been held and the parish council is now waiting to hear whether funding for the scheme has survived government cuts.

Market Place Steps, Winford

Negotiations with North Somerset about a scheme – which the parish council is willing to fund – have reached a stalemate.  North Somerset will not agree to any proposals which do not meet British Standards, but any design that would be acceptable to them would be little better or more user-friendly than what is there at present.  In the circumstances the council will not be seeking further discussions about a scheme.

Future use of playing fields, St Katherine’s Felton

The possibility of using the school’s playing fields as allotments following its closure had been raised.  Neighbouring parishes of Wrington and Backwell will be consulted about gauging whether there is a demand for such a scheme to go ahead.

Footpaths

The council agreed to provide contributions towards further improvements to gates on a footpath at Kingdown, Winford as part of the successful ongoing agreement with North Somerset that is seeing a gradual but significant improvement in the condition of the parish footpath network.

The next council meeting is on Monday 2 August 2010 at 7.00pm at Felton Village Hall.
