Winford Parish Composting

The Parish Community Composting Site is open on Wednesdays 2-5 and Saturdays 10 - 1 for the convenience of parishioners. It is managed entirely by volunteers who work hard to keep the site tidy and make compost available for sale in the village shops. Unfortunately their task is made considerably more difficult by the thoughtless behaviour of some people who, despite clear instructions to the contrary, dump material behind the gates, thus blocking both the farm access and the entrance into the car park.  This has either to be cleared manually by the same group of volunteers, which is very hard work, or by a tractor for which the Parish Council (ie you) has to pay. In addition it makes the preparation of the compost much more difficult.

We know the facility is greatly valued by many people, but we cannot keep it going unless everybody follows these simple rules :

*      Only come with trailers at opening times, and leave the contents as far to the back of the heap as possible

*     When entering through the gates with sacks at other times, leave the contents as far to the back of the heap as possible.

*     Do not leave anything behind which is not garden waste, ie builders’ rubble, plastic sacks, flower pots, domestic rubbish, tree trunks, stones, excreta, dead animals. Yes, we have had them all and had to deal with them..

If you know of any unauthorised abuse of the facility (ie commercial contractors or people from outside the parish), please let us know. Equally, if you would like to join  the small and dedicated team of volunteers who keep the project going, get in touch with us.
