The entry fee for classes 1 to 78 will be 20p.

First prize: £1.30 (where applicable)

Second prize: £1.00 (where applicable)

VEGETABLE SECTION

The Gillian Watts Perpetual Trophy is awarded for one year to the exhibitor gaining the most points from classes 1 to 20 inclusive. Three points will be awarded for the first prize, two points for second prize, and one point for third prize, except for class 20.

The National Vegetable Society Medal will be awarded to the most outstanding exhibit in classes 1 to 12.

The Robin Vowles Memorial Cup will be awarded for class 20.

The Gullam Novice Cup will be awarded to the person gaining most points in classes 1 to 20 inclusive who has never won the Gillian Watts Perpetual Trophy.

The Bob Cole Cup will be awarded for the best Set of Six Standard Tomatoes (class 10).

The Powdermill Cup to be awarded for the best vegetable, grown and prepared by a child under 16, derived from classes 1-12 and 21-22 (see Class 80, page 18).

FLOWER SECTION

The Winford Amateur Gardening Cup is awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points from classes 24 to 37 inclusive. First prize: three points, second prize: two points, third prize: one point each.

PRODUCE SECTION

The Women's Institute Jubilee Trophy will be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points in classes 38 to 57 inclusive. First prizes: three points, second prizes: two points, third prizes: one point each. All sweet cakes and biscuits should be displayed on a doily.

Recipe for the Fruit Cake (class 44)

Ingredients:

6 oz (175 g) soft margarine

6 oz (175 g) sugar

3 eggs, beaten

9 oz (250 g) self-raising flour

¼ teaspoonful salt

12 oz (350 g) mixed dried fruit

2 oz (50 g) glacé cherries, quartered

1 oz (30 g) blanched almonds

Milk to mix

Method

Heat the oven to 350 ºF (175 º C, gas mark 4; adjust for fan ovens) and grease an 8 in (20 cm) round cake tin and line it with greaseproof paper.

Prepare the fruit and chop the almonds. Sieve together the flour and salt. Cream together the fat and sugar and beat in the eggs one at a time. Add the dry ingredients and mix with a little milk, if required, to give a stiff dropping consistency.

Turn into the tin. Smooth the top and bake in the oven for about 1¾ - 2 hours or until a skewer comes out clean.

The Mary Wright Cup will be awarded for the most outstanding exhibit in Classes 58-62.

58   Novice Class. An arrangement in a teapot (space allowed 10x10inches)

59   An arrangement of flowers & foliage in a recycled container (Size not to exceed 10 inches x height of the pot)

60   Cooks Pleasure – An arrangement incorporating herbs and natural plant material with or without accessories (Size 10x10 Inches)

61   Floating flower heads in a bowl (12 inches space allowed)

62   Red Wine & Roses – An exhibit of flowers with or without foliage and or accessories. (space allowed: 20 inches in height or width)

CRAFT

The Winford Craft Trophy, donated by Mrs. Sheila Pemberton-Cummings, will be awarded to the most outstanding exhibit in classes 63 to 69 inclusive.

THE WINFORD ART CUP

Awarded for the most outstanding exhibit in classes 70-72

71   A computer-enhanced photograph, to be judged on its artistic merit. Max size A4.

PHOTOGRAPHY SECTION

The Tony Cummings Trophy will be awarded for the most outstanding exhibit in Classes 73-79
Photographs should be submitted unmounted in an envelope with the name of the entrant on the reverse and must accompany entries to classes 73 to 79 inclusive and 103. Digital photographs are welcomed, but no photo previously submitted to the Winford Show will be accepted.

73   NOVICE CLASS – Landscape (for an exhibitor who has not received a first prize in previous show) size 7x5 inches.

An animal study - separate prizes will be awarded to entrants in the under 10 age group and over 10 age group - age must be shown on entry forms.

Rules of the Winford Vegetable, Flower, Produce, Photography, Art and Craft Show

1     Classes are open entry.

2     All flowers and produce for classes 1 ‑ 37 and 80 must have been grown in the exhibitor's own garden or allotment & must not have been shown before in any other Show.

3     All entry forms and entry fees must be brought to Ann Morris, 7 Lye Mead, Winford on the Thursday before the Show between 3 and 9 p.m.

4     On Saturday, the Hall will be open from 8 a.m. & all exhibits must be staged and ready for judging by 10.30 a.m., at which time the Hall will be cleared. No late exhibit will be accepted in any circumstances.

5     Only exhibitors & officials will be admitted to the Hall before the opening of the Show.

6     No exhibitor may make more than 3 entries in any one class or win more than one prize in any class.

7     The decision of the Judges shall in all cases be final.

8     All reasonable care will be taken with the exhibits, but the Committee will not be responsible for loss or accident.

9     The Show will open at 2.30 p.m. No exhibit may be removed until after the prize giving.

10   The presentation of the trophies will take place at 4.00 p.m. Prize money may be collected from the Treasurer thereafter.

11   The Committee reserves the right (i) to cancel the Show if the number of entries, or unforeseen circumstances persuade it that this is the right course of action and (ii) to inspect the garden or allotment of any exhibitor between the date of entry and 4.00 p.m. on the afternoon of the Show.

12   Any objection must be lodged, in writing, with the Secretary before 4.00 p.m. on the date of the Show, with a deposit of 25p, which will be returned if the objection is upheld.

13   Competitors and spectators attend entirely at their own risk and the Committee does not hold itself responsible for any accident to persons or property.
