Third prize: 40p VEGETABLE SECTION The Gillian Watts Perpetual Trophy is awarded for one year to the exhibitor gaining the most points from classes 1 to 20 inclusive. Three points will be awarded for the first prize, two points for second prize, and one point for third prize, except for class 20. The National Vegetable Society Medal will be awarded to the most outstanding exhibit in classes 1 to 12. The Robin Vowles Memorial Cup will be awarded for class 20. The Gullam Novice Cup will be awarded to the person gaining most points in classes 1 to 20 inclusive who has never won the Gillian Watts Perpetual Trophy. The Bob Cole Cup will be awarded for the best Set of Six Standard Tomatoes (class 10). PRODUCE SECTION The Women's Institute Jubilee Trophy will be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points in classes 37 to 53 inclusive. First prizes: three points, second prizes: two points, third prizes: one point each. All sweet cakes and biscuits should be displayed on a doily. Rules of the Winford Vegetable, Flower, Produce, Photography, Art and Craft Show
1 Classes are open entry. 2 All flowers and produce for classes 1 ‑ 36 and 75 must have been grown in the exhibitor's own garden or allotment and must not have been shown before in any other Show. 3 All entry forms and entry fees must be brought to Ann Morris, 7 Lye Mead, Winford on the Thursday before the Show between 3 and 9 p.m. 4 On Saturday, the Hall will be open from 8 a.m. and all exhibits must be staged and ready for judging by 10.30 a.m., at which time the Hall will be cleared. No late exhibit will be accepted in any circumstances. 5 Only exhibitors and officials will be admitted to the Hall before the opening of the Show. 6 No exhibitor may make more than 3 entries in any one class or win more than one prize in any class. 7 The decision of the Judges shall in all cases be final. 8 All reasonable care will be taken with the exhibits, but the Committee will not be responsible for loss or accident. 9 The Show will open at 2.30 p.m. No exhibit may be removed until after the prize giving. 10 The presentation of the trophies will take place at 4.00 p.m. Prize money may be collected from the Treasurer thereafter. 11 The Committee reserves the right (i) to cancel the Show if the number of entries or unforeseen circumstances persuade it that this is the right course of action and (ii) to inspect the garden or allotment of any exhibitor between the date of entry and 4.00 p.m. on the afternoon of the Show. 12 Any objection must be lodged, in writing, with the Secretary before 4.00 p.m. on the date of the Show, with a deposit of 25p, which will be returned if the objection is upheld. 13 Competitors and spectators attend entirely at their own risk and the Committee does not hold itself responsible for any accident to persons or property.

The Hall will open from 8.00 to 10.30 a.m. on Saturday 6th September for exhibitors to place their entries. Recipe for the Fruit Cake (class 40) Ingredients: 6 oz (175 g) sugar 3 eggs, beaten 9 oz (250 g) self-raising flour ¼ teaspoonful salt 12 oz (350 g) mixed dried fruit 2 oz (50 g) glacé cherries, quartered 1 oz (30 g) blanched almonds Milk to mix Method Heat the oven to 350 ºF (175 º C, gas mark 4; adjust for fan ovens) and grease an 8 in (20 cm) round cake tin and line it with greaseproof paper. Prepare the fruit and chop the almonds. Sieve together the flour and salt. Cream together the fat and sugar and beat in the eggs one at a time. Add the dry ingredients and mix with a little milk, if required, to give a stiff dropping consistency. Turn into the tin. Smooth the top and bake in the oven for about 1¾ - 2 hours or until a skewer comes out clean.
