What difference does being a Christian make to your life and what difference should it make?  In ‘Spot the Difference’, Nick Fawcett considers five ways in which commitment should manifest itself: in a quality of love, a spontaneity of witness, a disposition of joy, a generosity of spirit and a vibrant inner faith.  The five sessions in this group study course for Lent are:
• A love that shows
• An allegiance that shows

• A joy that shows
• A concern that shows
• A faith that shows

v  The various Bible Study Groups will merge for this five-week course which will meet on Monday evenings.

v  Members will need to buy the course book which costs £6.99.

v  Please let Paul or Lesley Stephens know as soon as possible if you intend to come so that the books can be ordered in good time.

Felton Shop – an update

The Post Office is still open and is expected to stay open until some time in April.  Post Office Ltd is trying to arrange an outreach service, possibly in the George and Dragon.  Free transport to Winford shop is being provided by the Community Cars network of drivers and financed by the Parish Council;  lifts are available on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10.00, or maybe at other times by arrangement (phone 472440).  Unfortunately the start of the free lifts coincided with the snow, so it got off to a bad start, but we hope more people will use it now that the weather is better.

You should have received a slip through your letter box telling you of a public meeting on Thursday 26th March at 7.30 pm in Felton Village Hall.  We hope to have a speaker from Rural Shops Alliance who will tell us about other villages who have started a community shop and what the challenges are.

TUESDAY GROUP.

Although we were still battling with snow on the roads and freezing nights it was lovely to see so many people in the hall last month.  I think we all agreed it was well worth turning out as Lorraine Davies gave an interesting explanation of the meaning of the shapes and sizes of our own letters when writing.  She analysed the writing of several of the group and they were all most surprised at the accuracy of their personalities.  Our bring and buy raised £10. which was good.

This month our speaker is Tim Ryan and he will tell us of the history of the Severn Ferries and the rescue of the Severn Princess.  Mr. Ryan is a very entertaining and enthusiastic speaker so this should be another very interesting evening and we have decided to make it an EVENING OPEN TO ALL.   Please do come along and bring your family and friends.

We will be in the Village Hall at 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday March 10th

Felton Evergreens

Firstly may I say that due to the bad weather we had to delay our meeting until the 19th of February .  We had a very good day and the Bring and buy was a great success.

Not all our members could be with us due to illness and we wish them all the best and a big get well.

Mrs. Doreen Holloway has become a First time Great Grandma, her grand-daughter had a baby boy and we wish mother and child well and a big congratulations to the family.

Our next meeting is on 4th March, and we are having entertainment from Laurel and Hardy.
Look forward to seeing you all there.             Regards
Tina

WENFRE PARISH PLAN

850 questionnaires were delivered to households within Felton, Winford and Regil during November 2008 and a substantial number have been returned. Thank you to all those in the community who have taken the time to complete the questionnaires.

All the information, including the large number of comments and suggestions, has to be analysed, objectively sorted and used in the preparation of the Parish Plan. The results will be sorted into areas such as Social and Leisure Amenities, Local Business, Countryside and Environment, Housing and Planning, Youth Issues and Roads and Transport.

Now that all the data has been recorded, members of the Parish Plan group will be meeting shortly to decide how we progress with the information.

A lot of work is still to be done so if you have a particular interest in any of these areas, or want to know more about getting involved, please call Mike Davis 472119 or Judy Kiernan 472572.

CHEW VALLEY MONDAY CLUB.

The members of the Monday Club would like to gratefully acknowledge the support shown by all the proprietors of Chew Magna businesses who very generously donated gifts for the Monday Club Christmas raffle.   We had a delicious Christmas lunch at the Burrington Inn, and it was lovely for all the members, helpers, volunteers and committee to all be together at this special time of year.

We started back on the 5th January and have already had some wonderful entertainment, with a full and varied programme set for the rest of the year.  This could be anything from a magician, Scottish dancing, armchair exercising, music and singing or an interesting talk.  The Club starts the day with plenty of laughter and chat with tea or coffee and biscuits, followed by the weekly raffle.

The highlight of the day for lots of members is of course the wonderful lunch cooked on the premises, followed by the most delicious puddings brought in by volunteers.  There is also a service once a month led by Anglicans, Baptists and Catholics in turn.  In the summer there is various outings arranged, but you will hear more about those at a later date – watch this space.

If you think the club might be just for you, or you might even like to help the club in any way, please ask the secretary for further information – Tel: 01275 333006 or email jen@chewmag.plus.com.

DOWNSIDE RESIDENTS

Two large issues are affecting our little community this month.

Many of you will have studied the proposed development of Bristol International Airport, either at the airport exhibition or on the internet. This is not a planning application, just a consultation, however, you do need to make your feelings known to the airport about aspects of this expansion that concern you. This must be done by March 6th when the consultation process will close.

New Earth Solutions have submitted their planning application for a composting facility (waste processing plant) in Brockley Wood. Many of you will have attended the meetings organised by the company back in August and may have already received a letter recently from New Earth explaining their proposals. One of our main concerns was transport and the number of extra lorries along our road. They do not seem to have addressed this in the application. The application is very large, with a huge amount of accompanying paperwork and is taking North Somerset some time to register it. When this happens, residents will have 21 days (maybe more, as this is a large development) to submit their comments to North Somerset. You can keep track of this by logging onto the North Somerset Planning website.        www.n-somerset.gov.uk

Backwell Parish Council inform me that they have written to North Somerset regarding the ineffective traffic calming measure recently constructed in Hyatts Wood Road and have requested a site visit to discuss the problem. They have also written to the airport regarding speeding airport taxis at this point. At a recent Wrington Parish council meeting, I spoke to  Paul Croft of North Somerset, regarding  flooding issues on the A38, by the Airport Tavern and Cooks Bridle Path. The council are aware of these and intend to take action. The flooding on Downside Road, by the freight entrance is caused by the airport, who will have to deal with it. Deborah Yamanaka has made contact with North Somerset regarding the misleading road sign on Downside Road pointing down Hyatts Wood Road. I have also notified North Somerset about the large number of pot holes that have opened up over the last month

There is plenty going on as you can see. Please contact me if you need any further help

Christine Turton  01275 472230  Parish Councillor Wrington Ward
